The Friends of the Porongurup Range Inc. was formed by the Porongurup Community in 1990 to help preserve the environment of the Porongurup National Park and its surrounds. They have achieved this by being actively involved in the Management Plan process for the National Park, ongoing surveying for rare flora, fauna monitoring, weed mapping and eradication, gravel pit rehabilitation, construction of bridges and boardwalks over sensitive areas on the granite, and generally helping the Ranger in Charge with the management of the Porongurup National park. |

Outside of the National Park, the Friends have also been active in planning wildlife corridors connecting the Park to other areas of remnant vegetation, with the ultimate aim of completing the 'Porongurup Corridor' from the Porongurup National Park to the Stirling Range National Park. (see Twin Creeks Reserve) This, in its turn is part of the South Coast Macro Corridor Program which aims to rejoin the forest in the south west of Western Australia to the bushland areas along the coast eastward to the WA border. |

Conservation through Education is also a high priority, and the Friends are often involved with school groups, as well as conducting workshops and lectures on various environmental subjects. They run a Wildflower Weekend each year in the spring as part of this educational tool and to showcase the diversity of the flora in the area. 'Art in the Park' is also one of the Friends projects in which man made sculptures are showcased in the natural setting of the Karri forest of the Porongurup National Park. |
